Why do some straight people think that we chose to be gay?
I just would like to hear it from your point of view. That's why i'm in this section. I didn't chose to be gay. Honestly, I would like to be straight, but I just don't find myself attracted to guys. I just want to know how someone can be so sure about something they've never experienced, and like a third of of the world is arguing against you.I'm not trying to sound argumental I'm just curious

So you wish to be straight but you're lesbian? Is it due to just social acceptance? If you're not attracted to the opposite sex then you're not attracted to them. Nothing wrong with being LGBT. But since you are curious, maybe you should casually date men to be sure of yourself because you really don't sound like you know.

i've always believed that, because every gay person in my school is so flamboyant with it and try to convince others to convert as well. all of the straight people i knew just "switched" to the other side because and i quote "it's ok and i want to change who i am and every ones doing it anyway". it's ridiculous really.

People can't handle what's different to them, then again many people are just to ignorant, you be you, and be happy.

I don't know. I am bi and I actually chose to be. I think some people can choose while others can't.

Hi,
I'm straight but my best friend is gay. I always feel ... presumptious to say I have a little experience here, but Julia and I have been wonderfully close for seven months. I've heard her talk about her sexuality a lot and I've been through A LOT with her.
For me, honestly, I never thought you had any choice in being gay. Meeting Julia just confirmed that belief. I mean, why would you choose to be gay? You'd have a much easier life if you were straight. There are so many foolish, intolerant people out there who think it's wrong to be gay, that you just might get discriminated against for the rest of your life. I've seen how hurt Julia gets. How much publicly coming out scares her. She wouldn't change it, not for anyone, because she's proud to be who she is, but I know she wouldn't have chosen it.
Also, I think I once heard there are similarities in brain patterns between a straight guy and a lesbian, and a straight girl and a gay guy.
That's my experience and that's what I believe.
But I've heard other points of view. A friend once suggested it was a way of getting attention. He took the "God gave us free will and they choose to be gay" approach. I also think people perhaps think that it's something you choose, because it means that someday they could go back to being straight. It makes it a temporary phase. It makes it easier to deal with. Fair enough, some people do go through phases but a phase will not last 10, 20, 30 years. But I think it would only be those against being gay that would think that way. As a firm supporter in LGBT rights and a best friend to the most brilliant girl you ever did meet (who just happens to be gay) it isn't something I think a person has any need to change.
Ignore the people who say you chose to be gay. You know your own sexuality. :)
